Meditech is one of the largest integrated health information
systems on the market. Meditech’s
primary clients are medium sized health care organizations that need a system
that is fully integrated but is flexible and affordable. Meditech has been around for over thirty
years and is in ten different countries and continues to be on the cutting edge
of technology and systems integration. The
biggest customer satisfaction point is that Meditech is flexible and
upgradeable.
Flexibility
is key in the world of health care information systems. If a system is not capable or coded to
perform certain functions, then being able to interface to other systems is a
valuable commodity. Meditech is one such
system that may not perform every function out on the market, but often
partners with systems that are can do what Meditech cannot. One of these systems is an evidence based
information system called Zynx. Zynx is
a system that can create order sets and nursing care plans and keep all of that
information up to date with current medical standards and automatically import
that date so it can be used in the Meditech system by clinicians (Zynx,
2010). This flexibility to interface to smaller
ancillary systems is what has made Meditech one of the better backbone systems
on the market.
Upgradeability
is just as important a quality as flexibility.
A health care organization wants to be able to have a system that grows
and matures as the technology in the industry does the same. In recent years with the explosion of tablet
computers and smart phones, health information management (HIM) systems have
had to constantly adapt and provide access that is clinicians deemed
necessary. One such upgrade that Meditech
has gone though was to the user interface (UI) with the roll out of Meditech
Focus 6.0. This upgrade made the
Meditech systems much more user friendly and provided a smooth uniform
transition for clinicians through the different systems in Meditech (Perot,
2009). With emphasis on upgradeability
and flexibility the Meditech system will continue to provide innovation and
patient safety initiatives in a competitive health care market.
